The light began with pure intent
But darkness tempted purity with gold.
The gold was Life and freedom found in will.
And yet, the darkness lied and sent
So many falsehoods that were told
To burn the wings of light and keep it still
From motion. Heaven waits but Hell beckons
With its seductive kisses’ hold.
The angel falls with pity’s fill
While embers burn with greeting flames reckoned.
Now trapped beneath the Devil’s foot with fire
And stony, heated rain to kill
The soul so bright – illuminate – with spires
Alight to burn, for never flames do tire.
